finish week::sleep well

back in December, I pulled out my sewing machine for the first time in many, many years. I've never felt comfortable sewing. it may have been the perfectionist in me, but looking back, my first projects were all garments that made the learning process totally frustrating! with encouragement from lisa to try again and inspiration from larissa to make a quilt top, I made it a personal challenge to begin learning how to use my machine in the crafting arena.

my first adventure was successful! I made this stack of pillowcases (all except the bottom cloud case...mark made his own) one afternoon before the holidays. three for my "guys" and three for Christmas gifts:

you'll notice that I said three for my "guys" and not "four for us!" I totally missed the opportunity to make myself a holiday travel pillowcase. so after Christmas, I purchased this pink holly fabric for myself and the other for my sister. she's a pink and green kind of girl who loves flamingos, so you can guess which one is hers!last week, the fabric had been screaming at me long enough...I sewed them up! happy finishing everyone!! **you'll want to visit lisa's blog to download her simple pillowcase pdf.**

You're so right about starting with something manageable and not overwhelming. I did the same thing....I bought the sewing machine, I got frustrated, and it ended up sitting in the corner. I'm still far from being a great sewer, but I'm learning.

I never tried pillowcases, but this is probably something I could handle....You chose some great fabrics.

sleep well girl! you've been busy as a bee! Love the new pillowcases! We're putting ours on today for the road trip. We'll have the happiest pillows on route 29 south. I'm so loving your try it/can do attitude! go on....show us more!!!

Love the pillowcases! They are a great place to start sewing because they're "straight line" projects! Every time I sew a garment, I know I am going to get to a point where I'm scratching my head and trying to figure out how to follow the directions!

The fabrics for you and your sister are just too cute!

pillowcases are the best sewing project because you get to use and enjoy them everyday - and they always fit just right! garments are difficult - especially it you want them to fit right rather than pucker in the most unflattering of ways. and you will have no trouble with a quilt top - just straight lines. my #1 tip on loving your quilt is to choose fabrics that you absolutely, positively love. those flamingos are great - you sister will love this case for spring!
