happy creation care day!

last night mark and I watched the live broadcast of Hope for Creation at this website. Dr. Sleeth and his family started their creation care journey after his wife asked him two life changing questions:
1. what is the biggest problem in the world?
his answer: the world is dying.
2. what are you going to do about it?

the obvious answer may be reduce, reuse, and recycle. but he believes the harder addition to that answer is that creation care is a matter of obedience. and by obeying the fourth commandment (Exodus 20:8-11), we will need to add restraint and sabbath into our answer. so as a believer, can I show my love for God by loving and caring for creation? I believe I can, and I believe I have a responsibility to do so.
so the question remains...what are you going to do about it, Kristyn?

Dr. Sleeth challenged the viewers to complete this sentence:

"Lord, help me become a better steward of your creation by ___."
being diligent in recycling :: driving less and riding my bike more :: using homemade cleaners :: exercising restraint :: planting a tree :: honoring a sabbath day :: praying for creation :: eating less :: washing our dishes by hand :: packing lunches with reusable containers :: buying less :: enjoying every season and every creature

these are just a few of the new ways I'd like to try to take better care of creation. our family will be thinking of more over the coming months and focusing on one change at a time (similar to lisa's one small change).
I hope you enjoy and care for creation today!

Sounds like a great idea. Would only suggest one change to your list - use the dishwasher not hand wash. It's been proven that the dishwasher uses less energy, water and soap than handwashing. Just make sure its full when you wash it. Some people waste using a dishwasher by turning it on at night whether its full or not. Here's one link talking about it. http://www.treehugger.com/files/2005/08/dishwasher_vs_h.php

So true! and this is the perfect day to begin your journey. if we all use and buy with consciousness, the manufacturers will follow suit. Happy earth day to you too!

What a great posting for Earth Day! You are right, we do need to take care of our Earth and be good stewards of all the good gifts God has given to us!

You came up with a good list....There really is so much we can all do, if we just think a little harder. Happy belated Earth Day to you!

(And thanks for the card. So thoughtful).

Happy Earth Day!

One great thing I heard recently is "don't give up trying because you can't do it all. Even one small thing makes a difference."
