advent books

december. already? really? I can't believe how fast the moments of 2009 are ticking away.
this year in addition to focusing on relational gifts, mark and I are focusing on a relational family advent season. this Christmas season (in addition to our advent ornament calendar) we're adding a few deliberate and planned activities to keep our family focused on the reason for the season.

we love books. I mean really LOVE books.
after the holidays last year, I read this post and immediately added this idea to my Holiday Binder for 2009. I even added the event to my Franklin so I wouldn't forget it! {You can read melissa's 2009 post on this topic here.}

today was my day to prepare our advent books. this is how it went:
I chose my books and gathered my supplies.
I cut the numbers using the cricut machine
and added adhesive with the zyron machine.

I then punched red circles and added the numbers to them.

I put the book basket in connor's room as a surprise. the look on his face was worth the few hours I spent bringing this idea to life. it's not too late. gather your books and start reading!

you are awesome...we used to do this when the girls were younger. (my packages didn't look so pretty as yours) I just said to Kenzie the other day, that I wanted her to wrap up some of our Christmas books so that I could do this with John Samuel (and the girls too if they wanted to) this year. Now I've got to jazz mine up....yours look great! Thanks girl for the burst of inspiration.

What a wonderful idea....You must be about the most organized person around! My kids would love this. We're getting ready for our big Dutch SinterKlaas celebration on Saturday. Once that out of the way, I can seriously start thinking about Christmas. You are making the whole season fun and meaningful for your family -- That's great. (And thanks for your sweet comment on my blog. I always enjoy reading your comments.)

you are so awesome! i LOVE this idea. This year Hanukkah begins on the 12th so the kiddos will be in school for the first six days and since our gifts are either homemade, books, legos, or crafts it's hard to excited about building a lego set or doing crafts when there's school, homework and a big testing in taekwondo on the 18th. So I will so steal this idea so that we can read a new book after school each night - so often they just want something to unwrap!
