one stitch at a time

the February Lady has captured my attention. I continue to stitch four rows at a time. one lace repeat at a time, it begins to resemble an actual sweater. all the items I've knit up until now were just the practice I needed to feel confident enough to start this project, which was way out of my comfort zone.
today I stepped out of that zone again when I had my first crochet lesson. It was uncomfortable, scary, confusing...just like it was when I started knitting. the speed and fluidity kathy was crocheting made my attempts seem somewhat childlike. but with her encouragement, I have a few rows of single crochet to show you.
this post was meant for me today. many of jodi's feelings about her grandmother are my own. Thanksgiving day will be the one year anniversary of my grandmother's death. she was such an inspiration to me. she did it all-needlepoint, knitting, crochet, sewing, and quilting. and now many of her tools are mine- knitting needles, crochet hooks, and her quilt frame. although she didn't teach me one of her crafts, she inspired me to try. I hope you have someone inspiring you today!

It looks great! A wonderful start and a great way to remember and honor Mom Mom...I'm sure she's looking down beaming with pride of your accomplishments.

I think that the crochet that you're learning is very courageous...especially in light of the anniversary of your grandmother's passing. You'll find comfort as you work the rows using her tools. There is something so awesome about you carrying on her craft.

I also am loving your fls! I might need to do another one in that color! It looks so good! You are amazing.

Your FLS looks great! I had started one last spring and frogged it. I was thinking of learning crochet with my older daughter next year--as a craft we can do together.

i am being inspired by someone today ... and that woud be, you!

for 23 something years, i was convinced i knew love. but i have learned in the last 18 that i had no idea. i am beginning to feel the extra measure of "thankful" that always comes with the anticipated holiday. and my first feeling is for the love that is ours.

the mention of your grandmother made me smile. i always felt her acceptance and enjoyed every minute of our visits with her. looking transparently through her sometimes direct and determined demeanor, you could clearly see a spirit of grace and great love.

i love the stitch-by-stitch, row-by-row progress that you make on your fls, and i am so inspired by your secret step-out into the beauty of crochet.

love you, sweet!

what a beautiful and inspiring post! I love that you're trying something new in honor of your grandmother. My grandfather was a tailor who often worked from home - these days when I hear the hum of my own sewing machine I feel so much closer to him and to all that he meant to me. your fls looks great - can's wait to see that gorgeous color on you. have a great weekend!

How lucky you are that you inherited your grandmother's "tools." I'm sure with every stitch, you're making her proud. Yours was a lovely post. It made me tear up.

The sweater is gorgeous! I still haven't knitted a sweater for myself although I've found several I would love to do. Good luck with the crocheting!
